crop. Even worse, the littlest foxes, too small to reach the grape bunches, chew on the vines which kills the whole vine. So, instead of just losing a crop, we lose a vine, which is even more terrible. By the same logic, compromising in business and in work ethics in little things only opens the door for foxes, trolls and other ugly things to creep in. Case in point, in the not-so-recent past the USA was a nation known for it’s quality workmanship - kind of like the Italy or Germany of today. And, once upon a time, other countries were actually seeking to buy merchandise with the Made in USA mark. Alas, in the world of 2005 the few sloppy products produced in the Land of the Free seem derivative and boring. And, the never-ending drama and dilemma facing our car manufacturers only push the point further. From the Best to mediocre in only a couple of generations? Yikes! What’s the problem? Where did we go wrong? This problem goes to the root of the matter and the ugly fact is this - many people were not taught proper work habits and now have difficulty DOING or even holding on to a job. Who is training our population? It’s not the schools, it’s not the employers, and it’s not even the parents. Chances are, if you see a kid with a messy room, not far away are parents who neglected to train this kid how to work. And, training involves more than just teaching. The best teachers teach not only the procedure for doing a task, but also a set of values for producing that task. No matter what reasons we give for the neglectful training, it’s obvious no one has taken the necessary time to train our offspring properly. Hey knucklehead! Get out of my way! Is the mantra of every mover and shaker in town. Even sleepy Albuquerque has joined the IN A BIG HURRY WORLD which by it’s very nature is a BIG hindrance to good and thoughtful workmanship. Slothfulness, shoddy workmanship and disorganized systems reflect a lack of caring. Many people take short cuts that hamper the quality of their work, just to finish the task and eliminate the momentary problems. Later the job must be repeated - which wastes time. Since no one is teaching anyone, THEN Everyone needs to make it a priority to help Anyone we meet who’s struggling with bad work habits. And this doesn’t mean you get license to be a BIG KNOW IT ALL. (If you have BKIT tendencies that can’t be controlled, then maybe you can sit this practice out.) Nonetheless, we all need to step up and teach each other how to do a good job, and how to do our own best. Remember: Teaching is communicating knowledge while Training involves conveying a value system. Good teachers who teach good values along with proper instruction produce quality schooling and the best workers. So, our responsibilities whether we asked for them or not, as freethinking earthlings we need to reach out and help and teach those around us. 101010 |
